This has been a difficult week. On Monday afternoon, we learned that our Physiotherapist, Salman Afzaal was killed, along with his wife, mother, and daughter, while his son remains in hospital. This tragedy has struck deep to the core of many residents and staff here at West Huron Care Centre/Blue ...Water Rest Home. While we have been working through our grief, supporting residents and staff, we recognize the impact Salman made on each of us and how we can honour him and his family in the coming days, weeks and beyond.
Salman was integral part of our team for the past 2 years and a key supporter of our residents and their individual needs and goals. He was intelligent, gentle, and kind. Salman had an impeccable memory and was the most gracious and thankful person. He taught us the value of kindness, being intentional with our words, actions, and support. He was strong in faith, a dedicated and proud father. We have been blessed to have Salman as a team member and supporter here at WHCC/BWRH.
To honour Salman and his legacy, we ask that you spread blessings, joy, and love. We ask you to be inclusive, non-judgmental, and kind to one another. We ask that you take time to educate yourself on islamophobia and racism, and how you can be part of changing our future, so that is based on inclusion, kindness, and love.
We stand with #ourlondonfamily.
